St Paul’s Cathedral will soon be switching to renewable energy as the system is expected to be installed by the end of January next year.
This project is supported by the Community Climate Change and Energy Action program, which is delivered by Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government.
The Anglican Diocese of Gippsland expresses its thanks to Sustainability Victoria and the Victorian Government.
“This project supports a key element of the Gippsland Anglicans’ vision which is to act for the good of earth and all creatures,” said The Right Reverend Dr Richard Treloar, Bishop of Gippsland. “Our commitment was deepened in June 2022 when the Diocesan Synod formally resolved to take action on climate change, to reduce emissions from church buildings and vehicles, and to adopt practices that contribute towards this goal.
Jan Down, grant writer for St Paul’s Cathedral, said “We are also grateful for the support of the Gippsland Power Hub, which alerted us to this grant, paid for an energy audit, and provided helpful advice.”
“Churches and Cathedrals are places for people and the community. It is right that we are improving their sustainability so that these buildings can continue to support communities in a multitude of ways”, The Very Reverend Keren Terpstra, Dean of Sale commented. “St Paul’s Cathedral is the spiritual centre for Gippsland Anglicans. We are pleased to be doing our part alongside other churches in Gippsland to protect our climate through reduced emissions by installing a renewable power system.”
Rooftop Solar Power for Delbridge Hall was one of 88 successful projects in round two of the Community Climate Change and Energy Action program.
People are invited to contribute directly to the matched-funding requirement of the Rooftop Solar Power for Delbridge Hall project. The target is $8,000. Donations can be made via internet bank transfer to the general Cathedral account: BSB 013-795 Account no: 4962-98866. Please identify as ‘solar’.
